You spoke. We listened! You can now learn Bengali with Mondly.
Exciting news, Bengali language enthusiasts from around the world! Your voice has been heard. Due to popular demand, Mondly has now introduced a Bengali course to help you learn Bengali fast in just 10 minutes a day.
Consisting of super fun, effective and accessible Bengali lessons, the newly added course is now available on iOS, Android and web.
Also known as Bangla (বাংলা), the Bengali language is the official and most spoken language in Bangladesh and the second most spoken of the 22 scheduled languages of India. Furthermore, Bengali is also in the top 10 most spoken languages in the world with over 265 million speakers worldwide.
Bengali has developed over the course of more than 1,300 years and its literature is one of the most prolific and diverse literary traditions in Asia. The earliest literary work in Bengali is the Charyapada, a collection of Buddhist mystical poems and songs of realization that were probably written somewhere between 8th and 11th centuries.
To read or write in Bengali, you’ll have to learn the Bengali alphabet or the Bengali script, the fifth most widely used writing system in the world. Written from left to right and with no distinct letter cases, the Bengali script has a total of 50 letters, 11 vowels and 39 consonants. Don’t worry though! Mondly uses a unique set of lessons based on a contextually rich environment that will help you make the connections yourself and learn Bengali naturally.
Fun fact: The Bengali language movement (1948 – 1956) demanding Bengali to be an official language of the then-Dominion of Pakistan fostered Bengali nationalism in East Bengal and lead to the independence of Bangladesh in 1971. In 1999, in recognition of this political language movement, UNESCO recognized 21 February as International Mother Language Day.

Can you please put Bangla in the “I speak” section of Mondly when signing up. I have a close person who can speak Bangla but wants to learn Arabic. Your app is excellent for learning Arabic without harakat. The only flaw in the app is its freemium instability and the pressure to buy the premium version of the app.
Overall a lovely app which will be even better if you guys could add Bangla to the default languages!
🇧🇩Keep adding new languages.
Hi! We are always working on making Mondly better ❤️. And adding Bangla as a mother language is definitely on our list. Keep an eye on the app. You will be notified when new languages are added. Take care! 🤗

Hare Krsna! Bengali which is taught by mondly is Bangladeshi variant or that from West Bengal? Thank you.
Hi Peter! 👋
Mondly teaches Chaltibhasa (Standard Bengali – প্রমিত বাংলা).
I want to be able to talk to my friends in Kolkata in their Bengali. Is this the Bangla you teach, as opposed to Sylheti Bangla? Thanks
